Midlands Woodturning and woodwork show Probably not one of the major events of the year but I really enjoyed it attended by a few of the big guns in turning Reg Slack, Ray Jones, Stephen Cooper, Guy Ravine, Reg Sherwin, Keith Rowley and Phil Irons to name a few, also in attendance were some of the big suppliers Ockenden Timber, Craft supplies selling the shopsmith machines, Axminster, Ashley Iles, Bierton Craft Turnery, Brimarc, Turners Retreat, Carroll Tools, Chestnut Products, Hegner, Robert Sorby, VM.UK, Henry Taylor, Hamlet and Record power some offering some really good deals on tools and finishing gear. Also I saw a second hand tool dealer there with some good second hand tools but they seemed to be more pricey than the new stuff. Also there were some excellent displays of works of members from turning clubs around the UK, those displaying were West Northants Turners club, Shropshire Association of Woodturners, Carmel and Holywell Woodcraft Association, Merseyside Woodturners Association, Trent Valley Woodturners and Offchurch Woodturners . Standard of competition entries was higher than last year. The displays Bob Neill doing Pyrography and any number of turners from clubs displaying their skills and encouraging children to have a go trying to coax a bit of young blood to try the hobby, as well as marquetry displays carving and chainsaw carving displays the day was full and interesting and I could probably have attended the full weekend and still found something else I had missed. A good show well worth going to see next year. At the end of the gallery I have included some other bits from the carving and relief carving classes which I thought were of outstanding workmanship. |
